Problems with hair loss during and after pregnancy

Some women suffer from hair loss, or brittleness, due to reduced oestrogen levels, and increased progesterone levels, during or, more commonly, after pregnancy. This can be a distressing time if you previously had thick bouncy hair and are left with dry limp hair.
In Short
Try to be patient - the effects are usually temporary and will go away as your hormone levels rebalance.

Top tips to avoid hair loss:
  • Don’t brush your hair too much – get a really wide toothed comb, and after washing fill your hair with conditioner and gently comb it through from the bottom up – taking care not to pull.
  • Don’t pull your hair back into a tight ponytail or bun.
  • Don’t use chemical treatments on your hair.
