The EP team
Essential Parent was founded by Dr Rebecca Chicot, a Cambridge PhD in Child Development and Parenting, and Diana Hill, an award-winning BBC science documentary film-maker. As parents, they saw a real need for visual baby care guides and decided to use their skills to create them in a market where there was limited quality expert content available. The pitch of the original idea by Diana and Rebecca led to a regional small business award, which gave access to accountants, lawyers and PR resources to help the company. Funding followed in 2011 from Ralph Kanter (founder of the vehicle tracking business Tracker and former leader of other businesses) and through his introduction John Spearman (co-founder of The Week, Classic FM and Framestore), Hyman Bielsky (former CEO of Safety-Kleen Europe and an experienced private investor) and Robert Clarke (former private equity professional and a private investor). All of whom were known to each other through the private equity firm where Robert worked.
Essential Parent‘s productions include a set of parenting books published through Quadrille, and an award-winning app.
Essential Parent Company DVDs went into production during 2012 (translated into Urdu, Arabic and simple English) and were then launched with John Lewis before being taken to other retailers including Tesco.
In 2015, all EP content became digital. In 2017, the e-care delivery system was built so health professionals could deliver specially chosen content to parents on their smartphones.
