About us

We are one of the world’s leading online resources for expert-led, evidence-based parental advice. All our baby care advice is supported by the Royal College of Paediatricians and Child Health.

For now you can browse our award winning videos and articles, or take an “Essential Course”. In 2017, you will be able to discuss parenting matters with our community or book a live video consultation with our experts.

Health Professionals can use our “e-prescription” software to deliver selected EP content online to parents.

The EP team

Rebecca-and-Diana

Essential Parent was founded by Dr Rebecca Chicot, a Cambridge PhD in Child Development and Parenting, and Diana Hill, an award-winning BBC science documentary film-maker. As parents, they saw a real need for visual baby care guides and decided to use their skills to create them in a market where there was limited quality expert content available. The pitch of the original idea by Diana and Rebecca led to a regional small business award, which gave access to accountants, lawyers and PR resources to help the company. Funding followed in 2011 from Ralph Kanter (founder of the vehicle tracking business Tracker and former leader of other businesses) and through his introduction John Spearman (co-founder of The Week, Classic FM and Framestore), Hyman Bielsky (former CEO of Safety-Kleen Europe and an experienced private investor) and Robert Clarke (former private equity professional and a private investor). All of whom were known to each other through the private equity firm where Robert worked.

Essential Parent‘s productions include a set of parenting books published through Quadrille, and an award-winning app.

Essential Parent Company DVDs went into production during 2012 (translated into Urdu, Arabic and simple English) and were then launched with John Lewis before being taken to other retailers including Tesco.

In 2015, through John Spearman, an investor in Essential Parent and also Chairman of the global news digital platform The World Weekly, Essential Parent began working with technologist Rory O’Grady, the founder of The World Weekly.

Rory now leads on oversight of re-engineering the development of Essential Parent’s digital presence and related e-business models, whilst Diana and Rebecca focus on content, expert relationships, licensing and distribution through commercial, health and charitable organisations.
